We’re checking our data (overseas pensioners)
The Sainsbury’s Pension Scheme will soon be writing to our overseas pensioners again, asking them to complete a proof of identity check. We realise it can feel intrusive to be asked this, particularly if you’ve been in receipt of a pension for many years. However, the Trustee has a duty to safeguard the Scheme’s assets by ensuring we only pay benefits to those people who are entitled to them.
You will receive a letter from a company called XPS. XPS has been appointed by the Trustee to carry out this exercise, so please be assured that any communication you receive from XPS is legitimate.
This does not affect members of the Sainsbury’s Retirement Savings Plan.
For our pensioners
Have you registered for My Pension?
My Pension is the secure, online portal for all members of the Sainsbury’s Section, where you can see your payslips and P60s, and manage your contact and payment details.
Pension pay dates
Your Sainsbury’s pension is paid to you on a Monday every four weeks. Where the usual payment date falls on a bank holiday, your pension will be paid on the last working day before the bank holiday.
Payslips & P60s
We no longer issue monthly pension payslips. You’ll get an annual payslip in March each year which shows all the relevant pay dates for the next 13 pay periods. If your pension changes by more than £20 (for example, because your tax code has been changed by HMRC), we’ll issue you with a paper payslip in the month it changes.
A P60 is a form you get every year, showing how much tax you’ve paid on your Sainsbury’s pension. We’ll send you a paper P60 in June each year. If you have other pensions in different schemes, their administrators will also send you P60s.
Log in to My Pension to see your payslips and P60s.
Pension pay dates
See below for the pension pay dates for 2024.
Updating your bank account details
You can easily update your bank details through My Pension. If you change your bank details, we need to know at least two weeks before the next payment date so that we can set it up in time.
We can’t accept bank changes over the phone, so if you don’t have internet access, please contact WTW.
Sainsbury Veterans Welfare Scheme
The Welfare Scheme is a charity set up to provide financial support to Sainsbury’s Veterans who have limited savings (currently less than £22,500) and are in need. Veterans’ spouses and partners (as well as surviving spouses and partners) are also eligible to apply for grants.

If HMRC can’t help and you’re on a low income (up to about £380 a week), you may be able to get free professional tax advice. This includes help with filling in forms and what to do if you owe money to HMRC. Tax Aid is a charity that helps people on low incomes with tax issues. You can call them on 0345 120 3779 or visit their website at https://taxaid.org.uk
